Martin D-35 Dreadnought Steel String Guitar

Brand:

Instrument Categories: ,

Known for its strong bass response and power, the Martin D-35 is the workingman’s Dreadnought. It features a East Indian Rosewood three-piece back and a Sitka spruce top. The expressive quarter inch straight bracing gives this guitar its signature strong bass response and power, which has made it a popular choice for players such as Johnny Cash and Seth Avett. The mahogany neck has a bound ebony fingerboard and an easy playing modified low oval neck shape.

Introduced in 1965 but first appearing in the 1966 catalog, the Martin D-35 Dreadnought was initially a practical response to a business problem. Demand for Martin Dreadnought guitars was increasing but there was a supply shortage of Rosewood large enough for a two-piece back. At the time, ‘Rosewood’ often really meant ‘Brazilian Rosewood’ and this was the case until 1969 when Martin officially ceased use of that wood. However, small pieces found their way onto guitars until as late as 1972 or 1973, usually into the center section. From 1970, D-35 models used Indian Rosewood.

The Martin D-35 Dreadnought has become one of the guitars of choice for country, bluegrass and folk music or anyone that need strong bass response and power for picking and strumming. This is a perfect instrument for the intermediate and advanced player.
