The Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II is a great instrument, meeting head-on the need for a quality archtop electric guitar, combining tradtional tonal values with modern playability.
With a compact (16 inch wide, 3 inch deep), fully hollow single-cutaway, two F-hole body made of Canadian Wild Cherry laminate, Canadian silver maple for the neck, rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge and a pair of P-90 style Godin pickups, the Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II is very well made and fits in a very wide range of musical contexts.
The scale length is 24.84 inches and the nut width is 1 11/16 inches. Available finishes are black, Cognac Burst (shown here and in the video below) and a dark translucent red.
If you’re looking for an archtop for any musical purpose, be it jazz, swing, rockabilly or blues- be sure to check these out.
This design is also available without cutway, and as the Godin 5th Avenue Uptown GT, with ebony fingerboard, humbucking pickups and a Bigsby.
If there is any doubt about how good these instruments really are, have a look at this YouTube clip of Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett at a show in Brussels, Belgium. You’ll notice the guitarist, Gary Sargent, using a Kingpin II in Cognac Burst.
