Serial Number 00964037 – Made in USA, 2004
Pricing $1399 CDN with case.
Neck Curly maple neck with walnut center stripe. Unbound rosewood fingerboard with crown markers.
Frets Very little fret wear.
Body Curly maple back and sides, with spruce top. Binding on top and back. Rosewood ‘moustache’ bridge with compensated bone saddle
Finish Clear, ‘antique’ lacquer finish in excellent shape.
Hardware/electronics Gold tuning gears, Kluson-style with plastic keystone buttons. Update: this guitar does not have an installed pickup or endpin jack, but does have a battery clip inside on the neck block.
Playability/Action This guitar plays very well. The body size is nearly identical to a J-200, so it’s not small, but is still quite comfortable.
Case Original Gibson case included.
Comments Based on the classic J-200, and built under the supervision of Ren Ferguson, the J-100 is a somewhat stripped-down version with less of the decoration but all of the quality. The top is unencumbered by the traditional large and thick pickguard, and so is a little livelier and more resonant. Lots of bass, and overall a very nice guitar.
