Neck Mahogany neck with volute, bound headastock with split parallelogram mother of pearl inlay. Classic rounded profile.
Frets Standard LP 22 frets, low and narrow – not quite the fretless wonder version! Frets are in good shape.
Body Mahogany back, layered, with 3-piece maple cap.
Finish Cherry sunburst lacquer finish in reasonably good shape. This guitar has been played!
Hardware/electronics Hardware is gold plated. Non-original gold Grover Roto-Matics, gold pickup covers, bridge and stop tailpiece; some wear on the plating. The Tune-a-matic has nylon saddles. Gold control knobs and gold straplocks (the straplocks were not original equipment, but an excellent upgrade). Recessed metal jack plate.
Playability/Action Plays cleanly with plenty of adjustment potential.

Comments The Les Paul Custom is one of the classic guitars, used in all forms of music and by all kinds of bands and players, from Jerry Reed to Muddy Waters to Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. This example is clean and in good condition, and plays well. No belt buckle rash!
