The Twelfth Fret’s Consignment Policy

We have sold thousands of vintage and used guitars, mandolins, banjos and amplifiers for our clients over the past 35 years. Consignment instruments are always welcome as a variety of unusual and unique instruments keeps our inventory fresh and interesting.

Our shop is very busy with a steady traffic of local customers and visitors from abroad. Our client base now exceeds 26,000 players.

Plus with roughly 6,000 daily hits on our web site, we are well equipped to sell your instrument.

Our formal consignment contract agreement outlines the selling price, payout price to the consignor, any applicable repair or service costs and all the details on the instrument that our staff need to know in order to knowledgeably advise potential purchasers.

As experts in the field, we advise the consignor on the realistic price range for the instrument. A slightly underpriced instrument will sell faster than a “market-priced” instrument. Final price will depend your circumstances and how quickly you want to sell your instrument.

Chris Bennett is our consignment and vintage guitar specialist and he is a world-class expert in this field.

We charge a 15% sales commission for consignment instruments.

We ask that the instrument remain here for a minimum of 30 days. Generally most instruments turn over in the first 30 to 60 days.

A cheque to the consignor is generally issued on the following Wednesday when our bookkeeper is in the office.

We reserve the right to take and post photographs of and feature the item on our website as time permits, or to publish a text listing on our ‘Just In’ page.

Please contact us if you have more questions or wish to review the terms of the formal consignment agreement.
