Today we are featuring a beautiful Custom Small Jumbo from Bourgeois. I saw a guitar with this custom package at the Bourgeois booth at the NAMM show in January and fell in love right away. I already think this body shape is one of the coolest guitars that they build and the combination of German spruce, Madagascar rosewood and Koa binding had me drooling with anticipation!
There are many guitars that employ a smaller curvy body size, like a Jumbo that was put in the drier for too long. The idea is to get a more comfortable and manageable body size but still retain a lot of the power and tonal depth that you get from a larger instrument. However, few guitar actually achieve this feat. The Bourgeois Small Jumbo takes this idea and hits one right out of the park!
This version features a German spruce top and Madagascar rosewood sides and back on a 15 1/2″ lower bout and 4 1/2″ depth body. The German spruce top provides a crisp yet silky top end with a solid note fundamental and the Madagascar rosewood imparts a beautifully complex set of overtones and a rich full bass which never seems too boomy! This guitar really seems to shine for light strumming and fingerstyle playing!
The gorgeous wood sets and Koa binding give this flat top an elegant and organic visual presentation that I can hardly take my eye off of! The small and curvy body size, 25″ scale length and medium elliptical neck profile makes for a really comfortable playing experience. Once you pick it up you won’t want to put this guitar down!!
