It is always exciting when I get a call from the folks at Taylor guitars and they say “we have some great wood sets for you.” Now that’s music to my ears. Over the last few years I have been able to put together some wonderful guitars from Taylor’s Build to Order program and this Custom Grand Auditorium is another exceptional example!
It’s not often that I see sets of Amazon Rosewood up for grabs so I jumped at the chance to use this great looking and sounding tone wood. This particular set features overall lighter brown coloring with darker streaks and a sap wood stripe down the middle. Paired with a Sitka spruce top and framed by ebony body binding this is a simple and elegant look.
The versatile Grand Auditorium body shape provides good headroom and sustain and the Amazon rosewood imparts a slightly darker bass and overtone series than Indian rosewood. This guitar can easily handle light to medium strumming but if you are a fingerstyle player looking for a classic tone with a slightly darker vibe this flat top is for you!
