1999 Gibson ES-5 Alnico (Consignment) SOLD

Comments Here’s a real treat: a very good condition 1999 Gibson ES-5 Alnico, built in the Gibson Custom Shop at Nashville, Tennessee.

The Gibson ES-5 was first produced in 1949, as an alternate electric model of the L-5. Intended for jazz players, the ES-5 had three pickups and lots of controls to allow subtle tonal adjustments.

At one point, the “Switchmaster” version had a 4-position switch on the cutaway, and individual volume and tone controls for each of the three pickups.

Originally, the ES-5 sported the P-90 style Alnico pickups seen in this model, and in 1957 they were replaced with the all-new ‘PAF’ humbucking pickup design.

This version uses three single-coil Alnico pickups with individual volume controls, no switch, and one master tone control on the cutaway.

This stunningly attractive instrument is in excellent condition with one mark on the heel where a strap button might go, and comes with the original brown and pink Gibson case.

Serial Number 92919014, built during 1999 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Pricing $4400.00 CAD with case. SOLD
Neck Maple neck with multiple-bound rosewood fingerboard, mother of pearl block markers, leaf and Gibson logo on headstock.
Frets Original medium wide frets with very little wear.
Body Flame maple laminate L-5 design body, multiple layer binding. Bound F-holes, rosewood bridge base.
Finish Original nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst finish in excellent condition; there is a mark on the heel where a strap pin was once mounted.
Hardware/electronics Gold hardware; gold Kluson-type tuners, brass truss rod cover, gold tune-o-matic bridge and ES-style trapeze tailpiece; 3 P-90 ‘staple’ style alnico pickups. Master tone on the cutaway, and three volume controls.

The volume controls are wired so that, unlike ‘standard Gibson’ wiring, it is possible to turn one or more controls to zero without shutting off the others. While this adds flexibility, it also tends to reduce high end frequency output.

Playability/Action Plays very well and lots of room to move the action around.
Case Original Gibson brown/pink case included.
