Cherry Red 1960 Gibson ES-355 (consignment) SOLD

Comments Almost the Grail – a Cherry Red 1960 Gibson ES-355. Gibson introduced the thinline ES series in 1958, and the innovative combination of solid center block and acoustic chambers beyond made the line an instant hit. The design provides the rich tonal roundness of an acoustic guitar, with the sustain and clarity – and feedback resistance! – of a solidbody. This example of the 1960 production has been used as was intended. It’s seen a lot of playing, it’s been refretted at least once, and the finish is worn but the neck set is fine and it plays well and the PAF pickups sound really, really good.
Serial Number A34323, built during 1960 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Pricing $9,000.00 CAD including non-original case.
Neck Mahogany neck with bound ebony fingerboard; mother of pearl block position markers.
Frets This guitar has been well used, so it’s been professionally refretted; the frets are in good condition.
Body Thinline ES body, maple laminate back and sides, maple center block. Unbound F-holes, multiple layer binding on the top.
Finish Original cherry red nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Lots of finish wear on the neck, and worm sections on the top and back.

Playability/Action This guitar plays really well. I have to say that this type of neck profile, which is reasonably wide but not ‘chunky’, to be extremely comfortable.
