|Comments||Leo Fender introduced the Jazzmaster at the 1958 NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California. This annual trade show is the largest exposition of new musical gear in North America, and likely the world. Originally targeted at jazz guitarists, the Jazzmaster features large single-coil pickups, unique electronics, and a somewhat wider fingerboard than the Telecaster and Stratocaster. The offset body design is intended to make the instrument more comfortable when seated – standing up and moving around was more of a country or rock and roll thing. However, the Jazz world didn’t take to the Jazzmaster nearly as much as the Surf world did. During the late 1970’s into the 1980’s, it was adopted by British guitarists like Elvis Costello and Tom Verlaine, and has kept a presence in the rock world since then. This 1961 Fender Jazzmaster is in good playing condition. The original lacquer sunburst finish has natural wear but from use, not abuse, and it’s been refretted for playability.|
