2009 Morris SS-102iii Grand Auditorium (consignment) SOLD

Comments Today we’re looking at a 2009 Morris SS-102iii Grand Auditorium guitar.

Morris guitars are built in Nagano, Japan. The company was founded before 1964 by Mr. Toshio Moridaira and was the first Japanese distributor to carry both Fender and Gibson instruments. In 1964, Mr. Moridaira had a tour of the Gibson Kalamazoo plant, and in 1967 Morris Guitars started building its own acoustic instruments based on Gibson and Martin designs. This is the same route many builders have taken – starting with proven designs and ultimately developing unique approaches.

This 2009 Morris SS-102ii Grand Auditorium guitar is in excellent condition, plays well and has a full, evenly balanced tone; the Grand Auditorium shape avoids the tendency of the Dreadnought design to be bass-heavy and boomy. Interestingly, the top uses a double-X bracing system, and the back has a combination of traditional ladder braces and an X-brace!

Overall, this is a very well made, good sounding guitar with interesting construction features.
