Sunburst 1972 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe (consignment) SOLD

Comments Here’s a lovely Sunburst 1972 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. Gibson introduced the Les Paul Deluxe in 1968 and it was produced until 1985.The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe is very similar in construction to the Les Paul Standard. The primary differences are in the pickup routes and the actual pickups. The Deluxe body’s pickup route fits a P-90 single coil or the Mini-Humbucker, mounted in what’s essentially a cut-out P-90 cover.

This 1972 example is in decent playing condition, and while it’s been used over the decades it hasn’t been abused. It’s certainly been played – enough to have required a refret some years ago and put a few miles on the new frets. However, there is lots of fret left for years of playing.

Serial Number 958214, built between 1970 and 1972. It’s difficult to accurately date models from this period because Gibson used the 1xxxxx, 6xxxxx, 7xxxxx and 9xxxxx serial number range in all three years. This guitar was built in Gibson’s Kalamazoo, Michigan plant; the Nashville plant had not yet opened.
Pricing $2,750.00 Canadian with non-original hardshell case. SOLD
Neck Three piece mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, volute and large headstock.
Frets This instrument has been refretted, so the fret surface is a bit wider – it goes to the outer edge of the binding – and there is lots of fret left.
Body The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe features the original Les Paul body construction – a maple cap on a mahogany slab. From 1969 to 1977 the mahogany slab was’pancaked’ with a thin maple slab between two mahogany layers.
Finish Gloss Nitrocellulose tobacco sunburst lacquer finish in good condition. There’s the expected lacquer checking with a few small dings, chips and scratches.
Hardware/electronics Mostly original; the tuners have been changed probably twice. At one point, the original tuners were replaced with Schallers or Grovers, and now replicas of the Kluson Deluxe tuner with plastic keystone buttons are installed. The original mini-humbucker pickups with creme trim rings that just happen to perfectly fit the route for P-90 pickups are in place with pickup selector switch and individual volume ant tone controls, and a plastic output jack plate. Unfortunately the original creme pickguard is missing.
Playability/Action This instrument plays well, but could benefit from a setup.
Case Non-Original hardshell case included.
