Gibson ES-339 Studio

The Gibson ES-339 Studio is a new model, with the great features of the smaller ES-339 thinline electric model stripped down to the essentials. The Studio version has the same construction and tone, but with softer, unbound body edges and with master volume and tone controls; it is available in Sunburst and Ebony (black).

The Gibson ES-339 is based on the ES-335 platform that’s been in constant production since its introduction in 1958. Shrinking the body while maintaining the scale length provides all the tone, feel and musical versatility in a more compact package.

As with the ES-335 and ES-339, the body is an arched maple laminate with a solid maple center block to suppress feedback and provide sustain and solid tone with the roundness of an archtop.

The Gibson ES-339 Studio model doesn’t scrimp on hardware. The pickups are Gibson ’57 Classic in the neck and a hotter Super ’57 in the bridge position; tuners are Grover Roto-Matic models. The bridge is a TonePros AVR2 locking tune-o-matic and the stop tailpiece uses long-anchor studs. The electronics feature Switchcraft switch, CTS pots and Orange Drop tone capacitors. Factory setup is via PLEK system, so it’s very clean and consistent.

This model is a really great idea from Gibson – a genuinely high quality, very versatile workhorse guitar at a reasonable price.

Serial Number: Varies as new. The example shown is 12184739, which dates to August 6, 2014 as production number 439 at the Gibson Nashville Plant, in Nashville Tennessee.

Pricing: $1,479.00 Canadian dollars with hardshell case.
