2002 Collings SJ Maple (consignment) SOLD

It’s always fun to review a Collings guitar.   The build quality is always exceptional, the materials are top notch, and the tone is all there.

This 2002 Collings SJ Maple is no exception.   The spruce top on flame maple back and sides add an effervescent brightness and clarity to the warmth and fullness that come naturally to the jumbo body design.   The Collings SJ body design is closer to the Gibson J-185 shape than that of slope-shoulder dreadnoughts like the J-45.

The flame maple neck is capped with bound ebony headplate and fingerboard; the bridge is ebony.   For hardware, gold Schaller tuners and a faux tortoise pickuard complete the guitar.

This is a used guitar, so there is some fret wear and there is a lacquer crack on the top which does not appear to affect the spruce.
