1987 David Wren Maple 12 String Guitar SOLD

David Wren has been building guitars for decades, and has long made his home in Toronto, after working with Jean Larrivee, as so many of Canada’s top luthiers did.

David’s instruments are characterised by near-flawless work and attention to detail.   These traits, coupled with excellent wood selection, make for instruments that sound and play even better than they look.

This 1987 David Wren Maple 12 String Guitar draws some visual influences from the classic Guild jumbo 12’s, though the modified body shape produces a tigher, more focused and less boomy sound while retaining much of the raw power and all the shimmering highs of the Guild.   This was David’s largest model, and he referred to it as the ‘Roundup’.

Built using sitka spruce for the top, flamed maple back, sides and neck and ebony for the fingerboard, bridge and headplate, this is a visually stunning instrument.   The trademark Wren inlay at the 5th fret and rosette are both abalone.

Schaller mini tuning gears and a K&K pickup with endpin jack round out the hardware.

This fine instrument is in very good condition, with very little wear to the body, finish, or frets.   The scale length is 25.5 inches, the nut width is 1 7/8 inches, and the body at its widest is 16 7/8 inches.
