Maton guitars were launched in Melbourne Australia in 1944 by Bill May and the Maton company has remained a family business to the present day.
As an Australian company, Maton has not had extensive distribution outside of their own country, though they are the largest builder in Australia. They have also pioneered the use of local materials in their instruments.
