For 1979, the 25th Anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster’s 1954 introduction, Fender naturally wanted to release a commemorative model. It was first available in white, then the silver associated with 25th anniversaries, and finally also in a translucent red. Many of the silver finishes have yellowed to a gold colour, as can be seen here, and the difference is very noticeable in the photo of the body back with the trem backplate removed.
Typical of the 1979 Stratocaster lineup, the Fender 25th Anniversary Stratocaster featured a maple neck with large headstock, fairly dense and heavy ash body, and the word ‘ANNIVERSARY’ traces the line of the upper cutaway. Tuners are Fender-branded likely by Schaller. The F-stamped four-bolt neck plate is engraved with the serial number, and also with 1954 and 1979 on either side of the F, and 25th Anniversary below the F. It does not have a micro-tilt mechanism.
This example is stock and original. The body finish is in good shape though there are some markings and a bit of a dent near the elbow contour, though that did not affect the colour coats. There is expected wear on the fingerboard, particularly the treble edge, but fret wear is not severe and a fret dress to make it play perfectly should be easily accomodated. The bridge is currently set to ‘fixed’ mode, meaning that the springs are tightened enough to keep the bridge plate down. This is easily altered during a setup.
A non-original hard shell case is included.
