MORE →Here we’re looking at a Tim Scheerhorn L Body Koa square neck resophonic guitar, signed and dated – in two places! – by Tim Scheerhorn himself. The label, visible through the bass sound hole, lists a build date of 11/22/08, or November 22 2008, and bears Tim Scheerhorn’s signature. Those same pieces of information – the date and the signature – are also hand written on the inside of the back.

MORE →The Larrivee OM 09K is the Koa version of the normally Rosewood bodied OM-09 Artist model, based on the classic Orchestra Model design dating back to the late 1920s. This body design originated with Martin, and is very similar to the 000 models, but the OM has a longer scale length – 25.5 inches compared to the 000’s 24.9 inches. This increases brightness, clarity and volume. The OM body also produces a well balanced tonal representation throughout the spectrum.

MORE →Here is something rare and wonderful – a Kawika 6 string ukulele built in Hilo, Hawaii by legendary luthier David C Hurd of Koa and Ebony. David Hurd built ukuleles and guitar family instruments for many years in Hilo, capital of the Big Island, but retired some years ago partly due to toxicity of some of the more exotic woods used in higher end ukulele construction. His ukuleles are rarely seen on the market and are well respected for the quality of their construction and tone.

MORE →Sometimes we run into guitars that are just spectacular in every way. This Martin D-42 Custom Koa is one such guitar. This guitar is visually stunning and has far more than just good looks. It plays very well, is extremely responsive with a full, rich and sparkling tone, and it’s quite light. A classic C F Martin logo is also executed in Abalone. The fingerboard and bridge features a classic Snowflake motif, again in Abalone.
