❌SOLD❌ 1947 Gibson Super 400 Archtop Guitar Sunburst

The Gibson Super 400 first appeared during 1935 as a variant of the vaunted L-5, the Super L-5 Deluxe. By the end of the year it had become the Super 400. Placed solidly at the top of the archtop world, this model was played by many top artists – not just jazz players but also country stars. Merle Travis used a customized, cutaway Super 400 after his Bigsby-modified Martin. These guitars were not produced during the WW2 years 1942 to 1946.

Here we have an example of a 1947 production non-cutaway Super 400 with a slightly later add-on McCarty pickguard, which added two pickups to the guitar. These pickguards started appearing in 1948, so it would not have originally come with the guitar. This pickguard has been adapted to use a now-standard 1/4 inch jack and newer support bracket. A reproduction of the original pickguard is included in the case, which is original. The guitar has been recently refretted, and over the decades it has had a top crack repaired, and acquired a number of dings, playwear and natural finish aging including wear, checking and oxidization. It plays very nicely, currently strung with flatwounds, and has a huge sound. The original Gibson hard shell case is included.
