2003 Hofner Club Bass

Brand:

Instrument Categories: ,

The Hofner Club Bass, also known as the Hofner 500/2 bass, is very similar in design to the iconic 500/1 Beatle Bass, but with a traditional single cutaway ‘Club’ body. Originally built between 1965 and 1970 for Selmer, the Club bass has had a number of prominent appearances on stages; Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads used one for several tours.

Like the violin bass, The Hofner Club Bass, is a short-scale (30 inch) hollow body instrument. The easy reach and light weight, added to the practical Club single cutaway body shape, make it an extremely comfortable instrument.

Of course, the Club Bass sounds and plays like a Hofner bass. The hollow body adds a rounded edge to both the attack and decay.

This example of the reissued Hofner Club Bass dates to May 14, 2003. It’s in overall good condition with some wear and lacquer shrinkage. At the heel, the seam is noticeable but this seems to be strictly lacquer movement. There are a couple of small marks on the top, and minor finish wear in the usual places. Fretwear is light – it is strung with flatwounds, which are very easy on frets.

A Bullitt aluminum case is included.
