❌Sold❌ Bourgeois Slope D Steel String Guitar Sunburst, 2003

The Bourgeois Slope D is hand-built and based on the classic slope-shouldered Dreadnought design pioneered by Gibson, and delivers a more open, less driving sound than a square shoulder.

This design works very well for many musical styles including country, blues, old timey, pop, contemporary – the whole range. To my ear, it works exceptionally well accompanying a voice; some of the most moving material I’ve heard involves just a voice and a slope shoulder. There’s something about the warmth and openness of the sloped guitar’s tone that really blends the two.

Built during 2003 at the Bourgeois shop in Lewiston, Maine, this Slope D features a Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany for the back, sides and neck, and Ebony for the fingberboard, headplate and bridge. It is in overall good condition with a bit of play wear, including a few small scratches on the top.

Dana Bourgeois is very skilled at voicing tops, and this skill comes through clearly with this guitar. While it’s warm and rich sounding but with very clear and crisp top end, it’s no slouch at delivering volume.

Bourgeois guitars also tend to have relatively high neck angles, so there is more saddles exposed. In the short term, this means a bit more volume from the steeper angle of the string back to the pin. In the long term, it means that the guitar isn’t likely to need a neck reset for quite some time. Most steel string guitars will over time require a reset, and this can be an expensive proposition. Bourgeois seems to be taking a longer view with the higher angle.

The original arched-top hard shell case by TKL is included.
