Coming to you straight from the 60’s, here’s a vintage 30 inch scale, solid body VOX V232 Violin Bass , made by Eko in Italy during 1966! In reaction to the popularity of the Hofner Beatle Bass but wanting to reduce feedback, Vox had these solid-body basses made and they were produced between 1962 and 1968. Another hollowbody version with F-holes, the V250, was also available.

This VOX V232 Violin Bass is in good playing condition. The body is a lightweight laminate wood, bolted to a maple neck with bound rosewood fingerboard. There are two Vox ‘Extended Range’ pickups wired to two volume and one tone controls.

It has the wear expected of this type of instrument and typical for its age – the poly finishes tend to check fairly heavily over time and this has happened here. The bass is in largely original condition though the bridge cover is missing. It plays well, partly due to the zero fret which makes for a very consistent action in the lower positions. The short scale combined with the relatively light 7.4 pound weight make it quite comfortable to play.

Many Vox-branded instruments were produced by Eko, based in Recanati, Marche. At the time, Eko was Europe’s largest exporter of musical instruments.

A tear-drop shaped hard-shell case is included.
