 Bourgeois DBJC Makore

Bourgeois always seems to come up with something new to amaze me. In this case it is taking one of my favourite body shapes, the DBJC and adding the alternative tone wood Makore to the sides and back. Makore or African cherry wood grows mainly in central Africa along the western coast from Sierra Leone to Cameroon. It is a medium density tone wood with a high silica content, pinkish brown coloring similar to mahogany and is very durable with good gluing properties. This set has a stunning quilt like figuring to the grain.

Makore sounds a bit darker than maple with a strong note fundamental and provides great string definition on a strumming guitar. When paired with the redwood top on this body size the tone is warm and full with a well balanced bass and midrange. This guitar has lots of volume and strong note fundamentals with softer treble frequencies. This guitar sounds great for strumming and finger picking and the figuring on this set of Makore definitely catches the eyes. I hope to see more builders embracing this under used tone wood.
