Eastman AR605 Jazz Guitar
Eastman make their jazz guitars very much like their cellos.  They start with thick pieces of spruce,  maple or mahogany,  carve the outer arch ... then hand carve and graduate the interior.

I sometimes get asked what "graduate" means when referring to carved top instruments.  A violin,  mandolin or jazz guitar builder leaves the center of the top & back quite a bit thicker than the edges or "recurve",  to help promote efficient use of the entire plate as a sound generating membrane.  Each luthier has his own method of controlling the final tone,  balance and projection of the instrument,  largely through this "graduation" process,  either by using it to tune the top & back to specific resonant frequencies,  by a deflection measurement process,  or by sheer intuition!

.
The process of making a true carved top instrument is much more labour intensive than making a flattop guitar.  Until recently this translated into quite a high price tag ... until Eastman came on the scene.  Now you can get a true hand carved & graduated arched top jazz guitar with a thin nitro lacquer finish, custom wood/metal tailpiece,  and a sound that will put a smile on any jazz or swing player's face.  This particular instrument was sold to our store at an extra discount by the new Canadian sales rep,  as a "salesman's sample" guitar ... once it is sold,  I won't be able to match this price again.  This instrument is new,  in mint condition and with full manufacturer's warranty.
