| The Epiphone story does not follow a straight line.
For more than a century, it has twisted and turned through triumph, setback
and comeback; hitting both dizzying highs and crushing lows as it winds
its way through the ages. The latest chapter finds Epiphone as one of the
most successful instrument manufacturers in our industry!
The Epiphone Elitist Series combines U.S. made
pickups with classic designs, including the Byrdland featured on
this page. Gibson introduced this model in 1955 and named it after
Billy Byrd and Hank Garland. Like the original issue,
the Epiphone Elite Series Byrdland is essentially a 23 1/2" scale length
L-5CES with a rounded cutaway ... featuring a 16 7/8" lower bout,
2 1/4" depth, pointed-end bound ebony fingerboard with block markers,
gold plated Grover Rotomatic tuners with stairstep buttons, triple
loop tubular tailpiece, modified 'flowerpot' peghead inlay,
multiple bound tortoiseshell pickguard and an expertly applied flawless
tobacco sunburst finish.
