| Saturday November 27th marks the seventh installment in
our monthly "Gibson Days" promotion. On the last saturday of every month,
we are giving away a free Gibson T-Shirt to anyone who stops by the shop
and plays a Gibson guitar. In preparation for Gibson Day, we are stocking
up on Gibson guitars BIG TIME! Electric and acoustic guitars, archtops,
mandolins, banjos... we have it all. Over the past few weeks, we have also
put together a rather impressive selection of Custom Shop and Limited Edition
guitars... instruments you won't find just anywhere.
Here are just a few of the Gibson instruments to have arrived at our
shop over the past few weeks:

| No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. This is the
real deal. The Byrdland has not been part of regular production for several
years, but since when would we let a little thing like that stop us? I
spotted this guitar as part of Yorkville's display at this year's MIAC
trade show. The realization that Gibson had built another Byrdland almost
sent me into shock! I shoved my way past each and every person between
me and the guitar, desperate to claim it for the 12th Fret before anyone
else spotted it. I may have bruised some ribs and looked like a fool, but
it was worth it!
Hand made in Gibson's Nashville Custom Shop, this Byrdland
is a true work of art. Solid carved spruce top, solid carved flame maple
back and sides, oh-so-smooth 23 1/2" scale length, triple edged binding,
ebony fingerboard over a flame maple neck.... this is a world class instrument.
These don't come around very often (this is the first one I've seen since
joining the 12th Fret over 3 years ago), and they never stay for long.
So don't let it get away!

Gibson Les Paul
1959 50th Anniversary Model
|
| This one is a real jaw dropper; a 50th Anniversary edition
of the 1959 Les Paul. With its "Rust Burst" finish and cream/balck exposed
pickups, this Les Paul has a unique and striking look. The absolutely stunning
flame maple cap steals the show... this is some of the nicest figuring
I've seen in a long time! When it comes to sound and playability, this
50th Anniversary model gives you exactly what you would expect from a top
notch 1959 reissue: a thick neck, solid mahogany body, and the deepest,
richest sustain you will ever hear.

Gibson Les Paul Axcess
w/ Stop Tail
|
| I first got my hands on this guitar while touring
the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville back in April. I found this guitar
on a final assembly rack and instantly fell in love. I had seen this model
before, but only with a Floyd Rose tailpiece. Personally, the sight of
a locking tremolo system sends me running for the hills. I was therefore
very happy to discover the Axcess is also available with a traditional
stopbar tailpiece. The folks at the Nashville Custom Shop set the guitar
aside and shipped it to us here at the 12th Fret shortly after. Now that
I've had the chance to spend some more time with guitar, I can say with
confidence that in my humble opinion, the Les Paul Axcess is the most comfortable,
playable, and truly modern guitar Gibson has built since the original Les
Paul in 1952. In fact, I love this guitar so much that I bought it as soon
as I finished taking the photo you see above! (I'm really glad my
wife doesn't read these features!). Not to worry, I brought in another
Les Paul Axcess with a beautiful sunburst finish to replace it.
The Axcess starts with a weight relieved mahogany body,
and carved maple cap. The 1 piece mahogany neck is joined to the body,
then the neck heel and cutaway are contoured to give a much smoother feel
and easier axcess to the upper frets. A ribcage contour is carved
into the back of the body, so the upper edge no longer digs into your chest.
The body is also slightly thinner than a typical Les Paul, making the Axcess
an incredibly comfortable guitar to hold.
At the heart of the Les Paul Axcess is a combination of
496R and 498T high output humbucking pickups. I'm usually not a fan of
hot pickups, but the 496R and 498T manage to retain the natural clarity
that most high output pickups lose. The addition of push/pull switches
on each tone pot allow the pickups to be used in either series or parallel
wiring. The 'single coil' tones are beautifully clear and articulate, and
fully hum canceling.
Stellar design and meticulous hand crafted construction
make the Axcess with stop tail bridge the ultimate modern Les Paul guitar.
It is the perfect guitar for anyone who has ever wanted a Les Paul with
a little edge.

Gibson Les Paul Special
1960 VOS
|
| Talk about a classic rock n' roll machine! The real beauty
in any Les Paul Special lies in its simplicity. Sometimes a nice mahogany
body, rosewood fingerboard, and a pair of P90 pickups is all you need.
Like all VOS models, this reissue faithfully captures the feel and sound
of the 1960 original. The P90 pickups provide smooth, buttery clean tones.
Add a little overdrive, and this guitar really takes off with wailing mids
and a satisfyingly crunchy attack.

| This is just a sample of the Gibson guitars we have in
stock right now. Over the years, we at the 12th Fret have worked hard to
build a reputation for dealing with instruments that are truly special;
the kind of guitars you won't find most places. The collection of Gibson
instruments we have built up in anticipation of the Gibson Days event is
a perfect example of this. Whether you are looking for the ultimate guitar
to put in the center of your collection, or you just need a great guitar
to jam with, I'm sure we'll have the right Gibson for you!
