| Anthony Karol has earned a lot of respect in
the last decade for his original guitar designs, painstaking attention
to detail and his sensitivity to his customers needs from a tone &
playability standpoint ... all of which are the hallmarks of a great luthier
in my opinion.
This Solo Florentine Cutaway is very representative
of Anthony's work. He has assembled a staggering array of exotic
tonewoods, from the close grained Sitka top to Brazilian rosewood
peghead overlays, Bloodwood body binding, Thuya burl rosette,
and my personal favorite ... deeply figured Pomele Sapele back & sides!
This builder has somehow managed to utilize a seemingly disparate variety
of woods and create a guitar design that is ultimately very pleasing to
the eye and more importantly, to the ear.
The last few Karol guitars that I've played have
all been large bodied instruments like this Solo model. They all
had different wood combinations producing distinctive tone colours,
but all shared not just the enormous response you would expect from a big
guitar, but outstanding balance with a very complex & layered
overall tonality! |
