| I'm a firm believer in the old luthier maxim
"It's the cook that makes a good stew, not the ingredients" but it
really gives pause for thought when an instrument like this comes along.
I mean this guitar sounds SO good and has SUCH spectacular tonewoods ...
it really makes me think that the two may be related? At least sometimes?
Take this exceptional Bearclaw Sitka top for instance.
I can't help but think that the slight extra snap that launches the note
and maybe even the effervescent overtone structure on this instrument may
be due in part to the added strength-to-weight ratio that Bearclaw brings
to the table.
And call me crazy (get in line) but I could
swear that this OM-10 MR has a tad better immediacy of response than normal.
What is this term "immediacy of response" that gets thrown around?
How can a person possibly differentiate from guitar to guitar with regards
to assessing how quickly a note is produced? The short answer is
"darned if I know". The longer answer is that I have many many customers
who hear this phenomenon ... almost like plucking the guitar and even before
your pick leaves the string the note is out there! When I used
to build guitars I almost always could tell when I would squeeze this kind
of response out of an instrument, simply by the tap tone of the back
... which makes me think that this luscious set of Madagascar rosewood
has had a hand in the outstanding responsiveness of this OM-10MR Custom! |
