| The Martin Custom Shop had quite a large
and impressive display at last year's NAMM music trade show. It was
interesting to see their four page "Design Options & Order Form" at
the show that listed a multitude of custom preferences available to the
consumer. With the many body shapes, tonewoods and specification
options, the potential for creating your own unique instrument is
almost limitless!
This concept appealed to one of our customers
... a long time player who had owned many premium guitars and subsequently
developed a very good sense of what he wanted in a Martin. The result
is this stunning Custom Shop 0000-28H with a full 20 custom options
to suit his requirements!
I have to admit that I was holding my breath a
bit as I opened the case when this one was delivered. Would they
get all of the specs right? Would it sound as good as we thought
it might? Well, after going over our customer's checklist of
custom options and finding that they had indeed created this instrument
exactly as ordered, it just took one minute of playing to realize
that this guitar was very special sounding to say the least!
The 0000 body in conjunction with the 5/16" scalloped
forward shifted bracing gives this one a very commanding sonic presence,
while the premium Alpine spruce top adds great "space between the notes"
and an exceptionally prominent display of partials that really adds some
sizzle to the steak!!! |
