| Why is Madagascar rosewood popping up in
the high end of premium guitar lines? The short answer is because
it looks magnificent and sounds even better than it looks! This tonewood
is dense enough to produce a very bell-like tap tone that really sharpens
the point on the attack transient, augments the lower midrange and
adds some zip to the partials!
It's not surprising then that C.F. Martin
& Co. have picked up on this rare hardwood for their Marquis line of
guitars that feature Adirondack spruce tops, forward shifted scalloped
Adirondack X-brace, herringbone top marquetry and fossil ivory nut,
saddle & bridge pins.
This is one of those instruments that is low on
"bling" ... concentrating instead on features that will enhance tone production,
with an aesthetic tip-of-the-hat to the golden era of flattop guitar building! |
