| Hey! What have I been telling you all of
these years? Repeat after me ... "Mahogany guitars sound GREAT!!!".
There ... now that we've got that cleared up, let's check out this
new Bearclaw / African mahogany MG-4.0XP from McPherson guitars!
As we've come to expect from these folks,
the fit and finish of this guitar is immaculate with tight joinery,
clean lines, flawless lacquer work and this is rare ... a great setup
right from the builder!!! More to the point though, this
guitar is positively THROWING the sound like a well played-in instrument
...and it's brand spanking new!
If I had to be limited to one word to describe
the sound of this one, it would be "open". A lot, if not most new
instruments sound at least slightly contained when first strung up,
and gradually open up over the passage of time. Part of why McPherson
guitars experience less of this phenomenon than other brands, is
that they keep the instruments in their shop for a full month after final
setup to monitor any initial settling in under tension. What a great
idea! |
