| I'm starting to get the same feeling about McPherson
guitars as I did when Paul Reed Smith burst on the scene. These folks
are not just another new acoustic guitar maker. I get the strong
feeling that they are not only here to stay, but that they are going
to ultimately change our overall thinking about acoustic guitar design!
A case in point is this new MG-4.5 that we just
received with a gorgeous wide grained Redwood top, magnificent striped
Macassar ebony back & sides and flamed Hawaiian koa binding.
Yes, this guitar is absolutely stunning looking, but the real
story for me is the tone amalgamation produced from Redwood and ebony.
Macassar typically brings an enhanced glassy series of partials,
great clarity & note separation to any guitar ... while Redwood almost
invariably contributes a golden overall tonality, one of the widest
dynamic ranges of any top wood, and superb response and sensitivity
to a wide variety of right hand attacks. You can REALLY hear all
of these attributes in this gorgeous MG-4.5 ... and it is SUCH an easy
guitar to play with buttery action and excellent intonation!!! |
