| You know, as I first played this
instrument and was trying to get a handle on how to describe it's intriguing
tone characteristics, I realized that this is the very first koa/cedar
combination I have ever played! Add this atypical tonewood blend
to the McPherson offset soundhole design & inimitable top plate engineering,
and you get the completely spellbinding tone of this quite potent sounding
guitar!
I always associate Western Red cedar with guitars
that have extreme sensitivity to even the lightest of right hand attacks
... a warm overall glow to the sound but with good edge to the attack and
a prominent overtone series. Of course anyone who has followed this
site for any period of time knows what a huge fan of koa I am ... it just
imparts such a sweetness to the mid range. Having said that,
nothing prepared me for the commanding voice that this MG-5.0 has ... the
authoritative overall presence of this guitar is nothing short of ... well,
very very IMPRESSIVE! |
