an extremely articulate voice ... that's how I would summarize this new
Custom GS8 from Bob Taylor. That would be very much an over simplification
in this case though!
I think it is great that the guitar buying
public is no longer associating super tight grained tops with high quality
instruments. Some of the very best sounding flattops I've played
have had moderately wide grained top plates ... and this instrument is
a perfect example of that phenomenon.
What a gorgeous top ... moderately wide grained
yes, but with an even creamy colour, a sparkling display of medullar
rays and not a hint of grain runoff! This is the kind of top that
gives you sustain-for-days and a super solid note fundamental, while
the 16 1/4" Grand Symphony body adds muscle to the bass register and this
GORGEOUS Cocobolo produces tremendous clarity and layer upon layer of shimmer
in the upper partials! |
