Rumor has it that NASA is using a photo
of this Allan Beardsell creation in their current astronaut training program.
The figure on this maple is so deep it's disorienting!!! The surface
of the moon is definitely quite pedestrian when compared to the dramatic
visual craters and peaks of this figured tonewood! Quilted maple is the
rarest by far of the figured maple family and this is an absolutely stellar
example!!!

As stunning as this instrument looks,
it is its exceptional sonic properties that make this guitar stand out.
Once again, the 'maple-is-brittle-sounding' myth is shattered by
a gifted builder who knows how to adapt his technique to take into consideration
his wood selection. This guitar has superb complexity in the overtone
series and a nice 'snap' to the attack transient but also a massive overall
presence with a fullness in the midrange that mocks the maple disbelievers!!!
