| I can begin (just barely begin) to understand
the frustration that left handed players feel when I am faced with the
task of evaluating a left handed guitar such as this Vintage D model from
Dana Bourgeois. It is sooooooo exasperating!
When I sit down to write an assessment for the
What's New page I always have the instrument on a stand beside my desk.
Before typing a word I play the instrument thoroughly. Sure,
part of this evaluation is playing the guitar systematically ... note by
note ... and quantifying what I hear. But there is definitely an
almost intuitive element you get from just playing some tunes ... getting
a feel for the neck shape, playability, general musicality
and ... well ... just get a feel for the instrument.
There are a few things I CAN tell you about this instrument.
It is METICULOUSLY made. The fit and finish is flawless. The
materials are superb. Check out the bear claw on the Adirondack top,
the slight flame in the rosewood back and the premium beveled & polished
tortoiseshell pickguard! But the main thing that stands out with
this guitar is the sheer POWER! I sat down with a right handed Vintage
D to compare, note for note, and this lefty has a VERY COMMANDING
voice!!! |
