| This guitar is very much like the first
dreadnought models that C.F. Martin made for the Oliver Ditson company
starting in 1916 ... Red spruce tops, mahogany back & sides,
long bodies with 12 fret neck joints, slotted pegheads and a sound
as big as all outdoors!
What Collings brings to the whole equation
is absolutely mind boggling attention to detail with regards to both woodworking
and finishing. These guitars are simply flawless. I have NEVER
sold a Collings that was brought back by the customer with complaints regarding
the build quality ... every joint is tight ... the finish is immaculate!
The most impressive thing about this
guitar though, is the sonic detail. With some large bodied
guitars the trade off for increased volume and bass presence is lack of
clarity and a decreased overtone series. This is very definitely
NOT the case with this guitar. Yes this puppy has one loud bark to
it ... yes it has a bass register that would put a silly grin on the Mona
Lisa, but it still has crisp note definition, ample 'space
between the notes' and a shower of partials that REALLY makes things interesting!!! |
