Sergei de Jonge Guitars

Think that the evolution of the modern classical guitar hasn't progressed significantly since Hauser?  There are days when I would agree with you.  Today isn't one of them.  Today we received this new de Jonge!

Yes,  on the surface,  this just looks like another classical guitar.  OK ... maybe not just any classical guitar.  It does have the exquisite sculpted bridge that Mr. de Jonge is renown for as well as an especially stunning piece of spalted maple utilized in the soundhole rosette.  And yes,  it does have an unbelievably fine grained Bearclaw Engelmann spruce top with luscious Brazilian rosewood back & sides trimmed with Pomelle Bubinga binding ... all further enhanced by an expertly applied French Polish finish!

But you really just have to pick this instrument up to know that you are in the presence of a completely different concert guitar.  It is so incredibly LIGHT!!!  This instrument actually weighs only 3 pounds!  When I asked Sergei about the weight factor he indicated that he has conducted exhaustive research into fabricating an instrument with ample structural integrity & longevity ... but with considerably less weight.  With the use of double-top technology that he helped pioneer,  as well as the employment of modern graphite reinforcement,  Mr. de Jonge has created a very light and VERY responsive instrument that will stand up to the rigors of the touring concert guitarist!

Actually,  I first laid eyes on this instrument when I was walking around the store looking for our classical expert Ed Kopala.  I saw him in our classical sound room,  playing a striking looking instrument with a deer-in-the-headlights look in his eyes.  I've seen that look before.  It is the "I don't want to buy another guitar right now but I MUST HAVE THIS" look.   After listening to him play this instrument,  I know exactly why it had such an impact on him.  This is simply a thoroughbred of an instrument.  It translates the nuances of your musical interpretations effortlessly with a tonal complexity that I rarely hear in any level of instrument!!!

Think that the evolution of the classical guitar hasn't progressed recently?  Think again.
