| Every different right hand attack angle pulls a distinctive
tonality from this Jazz Nylon model from master luthier Sergei de Jonge.
Utilizing a moderate rest stroke closer to the fingerboard induces that
rich dark Spanish tone colour, while attacking more aggressively
closer to the bridge creates a much more silvery overall tonality with
a crisp attack transient and wonderfully complex overtone characteristics
... quite dramatically enhanced by the addition of a side port! The
overall tonality of this unique instrument has a very "human voice" expressiveness
to it ... evocative of players such as Laurindo Almeida, Charlie Bird,
Gene Bertoncini and Milton Nascimento.
I also have to say that this has perhaps the nicest
playability in a nylon string guitar that I have ever experienced!
The beveled armrest, radiused fingerboard, slightly narrower
49 mm nut, 13 fret-to-the-body neck joint and raised fingerboard
extension all contribute to an absolutely effortless performance.
Add Mr. de Jonge's adjustable neck angle that raises and lowers string
action without compromising saddle height ... and you have what many
consider the best Jazz Nylon Crossover instrument in the world! |
