| I would like to put to rest once and for
all the rumor that has been circulating, that this retro-back-to-the-future
guitar design is the illegitimate love-child of Jane Jetson and a certain
lion-like California guitar designer with an auto part sir name.
Nothing could be farther from the truth!
The real scoop is that the Albert Lee Model was
originally designed in 1987 by Ernie Ball as a prototype instrument featuring
a radical new angular body. Well known musician Albert Lee tried the guitar
and instantly became attached to it. It became his main axe on the stage
and in the studio. In 1993 Ernie Ball began offering the guitar to the
public as the Albert Lee Signature model with a pinkburst finish, three
Seymour Duncan single coils, a maple neck and a Music Man standard bridge.
In 1996, the Albert Lee line was broadened to include new colors and an
optional Music Man vintage tremolo. There! Consider this
the final word in the matter. Enough of the sensationalized tabloid
headlines and cheap shots on the Letterman show!
OK, OK, enough of the kidding around
(is there something extra in my coffee this morning?). Today's feature
is the very appealing looking Albert Lee Model pictured above, featuring
a trans red finish over an ash body, MOP pickguard with three custom
designed Seymour Duncan single coil pickups, the famous Music Man
"Silent Circuit", a fully intonateable hard-tail bridge and of course,
the to-die-for Music Man neck contour finished with their oil/wax mixture!
This particular instrument weighs in at a very light and VERY resonant
7.4 pounds overall guitar weight, plays like butter and has more
spank & sparkle than a chicken picker could ever dream of!
This really is one of the most thoughtfully designed
solidbody electric guitars out there. It balances perfectly on a
strap ... has sculpted body contours positioned for the maximum comfort
... has excellent access to the upper registers of the fingerboard and
will cut absolutely ANY idiom of music you throw at it! If you took
a poll of our staff regarding their favorite solidbody guitars, this
is the one that would be mentioned the most without a doubt!!! |
