| For my money, the new L-7C archtops coming
out of Gibson's Bozeman Montana workshop are some of the best sounding
jazz guitars of any era. Yes, this sounds like just another
extravagant claim churned out from my personal hype-mill ... but I really
believe it! These instruments have consistently impressed not just
myself but some extremely proficient in-store musicians as well.
The comment I get the most and I would have to
agree, is that these instruments combine some of the best attributes
of both archtop and flattop guitars. The L-7C has probably
the "fullest" overall tonality of any of our current jazz guitars ... a
really throaty lower midrange with a powerful kick in the low end that
really helps balance the cutting trebles that are inherent in this style
of instrument!
This is a fully acoustic instrument, which
is not to say that it can't be retro-fitted with your favorite suspended
neck pickup with pickguard-mounted controls ... without compromising the
acoustic integrity at all! |
