| In the early 1900's, many would-be
inventors had ideas about how to make a guitar louder. In the early
20's, John Dopyera was experimenting in Los Angeles with discs of different
materials including mica, paper, pressed fibre, glass, tin and other sheet
metals. John found that conical shaped ninety-eight percent aluminum
resonators, looking similar to small loud speakers and crafted with the
proper thickness and hardness, worked best for his new "Tri-cone"
metal bodied guitar. John attached his resonators to a cast aluminum
bridge that had an inserted wooden saddle. A classic guitar design
was born!
Until recently, reso-phonic guitars
(and tri-cones in particular) were quite expensive to manufacture.
The Johnson company has recently introduced a new reasonable priced version
of this venerable design that we are initially able to offer for $1039.00
Canadian dollars ($669.US$)! These instruments compare quite favourably
in all aspects to their American made counterparts. |
