| I have to say, I'm REALLY enjoying having
a couple of Larrivee Custom Hawaiian Koa guitars in stock again!
It has been a long time since I've been able to offer a Larrivee with one
of my favorite all-time tonewoods and it will probably be a long time until
I am able to offer it again. Unfortunately, figured Koa in
large enough dimensions to make a guitar is getting very very difficult
to procure. Like they say though ... if you've got it, flaunt
it!
This latest custom Larrivee has the 09-Series
appointments with the notable exceptions of a very nice two piece bookmatched
Hawaiian Koa back, deeply flamed koa sides and a custom Vine-&-Logo
headstock inlay of abalone shell and mother-of-pearl! The tastefully
understated 09 aesthetic in combination with the colour depth of koa and
this elegant peghead flourish can be summed up in one word really ... classy!!!
Jean Larrivee's L-body is in my opinion
THE most versatile body shape on the market. I find that both physically
large and small players feel comfortable holding this instrument.
The lower bout dimension and body depth are relatively large, but
the tight waist sits the guitar lower on your lap than a dreadnought.
This large lower bout but tight waist and smaller upper bout contribute
to making this instrument sonically versatile as well. It definitely
has enough kick out of the low end AND enough dynamic range (tons-o-headroom)
to take an aggressive pick attack, but the bass-mids-treble balance
is EXCELLENT and the overtones extremely interesting! Add a chunk
of that sweet koa midrange and you've got the perfect guitar!!! |
