| If Jean Larrivee was dropped in the middle
of a jungle in Paraguay with nothing more than a nail file and a dull spoon,
he would be speaking fluent Guarani and producing 25 Charangos a week within
a month of his feet touching the ground. You think I am joking but
I'm not! This man has enough energy to power a small mid-western
city, enough adrenaline to fuel the space shuttle AND enough smarts
to accomplish ANYTHING he puts his mind to. Jean Larrivee is
without a doubt one of the top luthiers in the world today. Period!
In January, Jean graciously
agreed to build a limited run of thirty '03' series guitars especially
for the Twelfth Fret. These exclusive instruments feature solid rosewood
back & sides, select Sitka spruce tops, 14 fret neck joints,
slotted pegheads, 'dart' style volutes, pyramid bridges,
bone nuts, intonation compensated bone saddles, Italian-made
beveled 'tortoiseshell' pickguards and custom numbered labels signed by
Jean-Claude Larrivee himself!!!
I am convinced that the narrow pyramid
bridge and the thin matte finish has increased the response and power in
these instruments. I've played them against every high-end
Orchestra Model in our store and they blow most of them away!
The great bass-mids-treble balance is still there, but there is definitely
more kick to the attack transient and the overtones can only be described
as effervescent! These are exceptional sounding AND exceptional
playing instruments that feature a very comfortable 1 3/4" nut width with
nicely rounded fret ends and a smooth, low friction neck finish!
Our goal in designing this new " OM-03
R SH " (Orchestra Model 03 Rosewood Slot Head) was to be able to offer
a very competitively priced guitar that has some of the cool features currently
residing higher in the Larrivee line. This instrument sells for $1200.00
less than the comparable OM-60SH and with it's ultra smooth matte finish
has a more organic presence!
