A couple of months back a few old friends
were invited to a special birthday party to celebrate Jean Larrivee's 60th
birthday. On June 4th we flew out to Vancouver and from there took
a seaplane to Galiano Island and just hung out and reminisced about the
good old days! What a blast!
| Here's a shot of Jean's shop circa 1977.
Clockwise from the top left it's Jean, David Wren (me with face foliage!),
George Gray, Michael Jones, Tony Duggan-Smith, Linda Manzer and Michael
Schriener . How time flies!!! |
Jean has done much more
than influence the guitar scene. He is the father of Canadian guitar
building and has changed the lives of numerous apprentices and friends.
It was great to have the opportunity to pay homage to the maestro himself
and to spend time with old friends!
When we were in Vancouver
I banged off a few quick shots of Jean's shop. This has grown to
be quite a large facility that is impressive in it's organization and skillful
use of both hand-work and machine utilization. The jigs are ingenious
and the seasoned wood selection is huge! John Larrivee Jr. is now
running the Vancouver facility while Jean-Claude gets the California shop
running smoothly. |
