| There is not a lot of guitar gear
that can claim to have actually changed the course of music history.
Jim Marshall's 1959 Super Lead Plexi head just may be one of those rare
amps that, in the hands of players such as Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck,
did just that! In the late '60s the combination of the
humbucking pickup plugged in to the front end of a Plexi created a sound
that is still one of the benchmark tones of rock music today!
Marshall has reissued this historic
amp and have been meticulous in replicating the original issue with the
exception of an added effects loop that can be completely bypassed for
purists who want the exact signal path of the originals! As
with the original, the desired Marshall Plexi midrange bark appears
when you jumper channel one's bass heavy tone in series with channel
two's high-end cutting power. Crank it up through your choice of
4x12 cab and then actually use the volume controls to shape your tone!
This Plexi reissue even looks the
part with its pre-JCM800 cabinet, small grain vinyl with gold piping as
well as the painted Perspex control panel that gave this amp its nickname.
This beauty is definitely not skin deep though, as witnessed by the
solid birch ply cabinet that houses a corner welded steel chassis with
hand wired tube sockets!!! |
