| We have just received our very first shipment
of Michael Kelly mandolins. Yes, you have heard me rant
on about mandolins in the past, but to date, these are without
a doubt, my personal favorite F-style mandolins in this price point.
As a matter of fact we have put these instruments up against our in-stock
Gibsons and they stand up very very well indeed!
Why does this particular brand stand
out? According to our contacts, this is the only brand that
hand graduates the tops after they are pressed. When at the
NAMM music trade show, it was explained to us that when a Korean
mandolin manufacturer states that their tops and backs are 'carved',
it really means that they are essentially pressed from a solid flat piece
of wood (with a bit of genuine carving done in the scroll area).
Apparently the Michael Kelly mandolins are the only ones that are subsequently
hand graduated to thin the 'recurve' area. This produces quite a
dramatic improvement in the tone especially in the normally weak lower
mids, giving that high-end 'chunk' when chopping out chords.
The Michael Kelly ' Legacy Deluxe ' pictured
above was delivered late last week and features all solid woods and a radiused
fingerboard that has the extension scooped to avoid getting in the way
of your pick! This instrument is initially selling for just under
$1000.00 Canadian dollars with case (just under $760.US$)!!!
