This is possibly
the finest instrument to pass through our store in 23 years. Where do you
start describing a guitar of this magnitude? Certainly William Laskin needs
no introduction. This world-renowned luthier has been raising the level
of his art for over 26 years. We are the only dealer in the world
that receives new Laskin guitars (albeit only one per year!). This is our
guitar for the millennium. The back & sides of this instrument are
from a board of luscious Brazilian rosewood that had been purchased
in 1970 and stored uncut in a controlled indoor environment for the intervening
3 decades! The body and fingerboard are bound in ebony with a top edging
of rare Abalone Heart shell. The body has both the patented Laskin Armrest
& Ribrest edge beveling. The inlay art, titled: "D.I.Y Vine" (Do It
Yourself Vine), took 93 hours to complete: uses 10 different kinds of stone,
6 different kinds of shell, 2 kinds of legal ivory (mammoth & walrus),
and nickel silver. This is a tongue-in-cheek, playful take on a traditional
"Vine" inlay being constructed, from the fertile imagination of the world's
preeminent inlay artist. In this scene however, something goes wrong: the
middle character accidentally shatters the vine with his hammer blow and
the loosened lower portion of the vine (which we assume had already been
in place) cascades down onto the lowest worker. Oh, and by the way, this
is possibly the most powerful and dynamic sounding steel string guitar
I have ever had the pleasure to play. Unbelievable? Believe it.
