| We are extremely pleased to be able to
offer this fine concert grade classical instrument by luthier Carlos Pina.
This is a truly exquisite guitar made from premium tonewoods, displaying
world class craftsmanship!
Maestro Pina's workshop is situated
in Paracho Mexico. Located in the mountains of the state of Michoacan,
about a six hour bus ride west of Mexico City, Paracho may be the
only place in the world where a whole town's economy is based on building
guitars! Historically, Paracho has been known for its
entry level instruments but in recent decades there has been an emerging
recognition by professional players of the high-end concert grade classical
and flamenco guitars from this region.
The instrument pictured above is noteworthy
not only for its flawless Engelmann spruce top and dramatic Brazilian rosewood
back but also for its painstaking attention to detail. The lines
and joinery on this instrument are clean and crisp. Even a close
inspection of the interior of the box reveals an obsession with the highest
quality workmanship! The internal top strutting is a very complex
lattice pattern with every joint tight and structurally sound. The
linings are solid, hand bent and hand carved to a pleasing radius.
A closer inspection of the internal structure reveals a very light finish
on the back struts, center seam reinforcement and linings!
Now that is detail!!!
As you would expect from a spruce
topped Brazilian rosewood instrument, the overall timbre of this
guitar has a beautiful 'silvery' clarity with good overall note definition
and a crisp attack transient. Some of the lattice braced nylon
strung guitars that I have played in the past have seemed slightly constrained.
Not so with this instrument. The voice of this guitar is open and
very very strong!
