| The Mega-Brute from Polytone Amplifiers
seems to defy the laws of physics. How can something this small sound
so big and fat sounding?!?! This incredibly small enclosure
(heck, this thing is only 11.5" x 13" for goodness sakes!) delivers
an unbelievably warm and full jazz tone that rivals any amp of ANY size!
This is the amp that prompted us to
pursue the entire Polytone line in the first place. Our resident
whiz kid, Matt Stevens, flew to Montreux this summer to play
the jazz festival. He borrowed one of these Mega-Brutes and
put it in the overhead (how many amps do you know of that fit in the overhead
of a plane?), played Montreux, flew to L.A. and did a gig there,
went on to Boston for a showcase and back to Toronto. His first words
when he came back were "I've got an amp that you have GOT to start carrying".
This is a very very serious sounding amp that will cut it in any jazz gig
situation!!!
And yes, my Eastman AR805 archtop
plugged into my own Mega-Brute is THE PERFECT combo. For jazz,
it just does not sound any better than this. Period!!! |
